Description AUSTIN HEALEY 3000 Mk IIA BJ7I bought the car in April 1977 after it had languished on the forecourt of our local garage through a wet spring. It drove well, but the rear springs were flat and the colour was not original. It went to Paul Skilleter in West Bromwich for a complete body off restoration, with the paint being restored to the original colour. The engine, gearbox and running gear were judged Ok and not touched. I drove it a bit, but then wanted fresh air and easier cruising, so a hood and overdrive gearbox came from John Chatham. In 1982 the engine came out for a rebuild, new bearings, pistons and an engine dynamically balanced with a fast road/rally camshaft. The 42 spoke wheels were changed for 60 spoke. Since then it has remained with very little alteration. The seats were re-upholstered a second re-spray with the panels off in about 1990. It has a full tonneau, a hood bag and is clean and drives well. |
