Front Disc Brake Conversion Kit for Austin Healey BN2-BN6 - CapeSport

This CapeSport front disc brake conversion kit is made for Austin Healey BN2, BN4 and BN6 wire-wheel cars originally fitted with front drum brakes. It converts the front braking system from drums to discs, giving a more consistent front-brake setup for cars where the original drums are worn, difficult to adjust evenly, or less suited to regular road use.

Check the car before ordering

This kit is not suitable for BN1 models, later Austin Healey 3000 models already built with front discs, steel-wheel cars, 4-stud wheel arrangements, or cars using non-standard front hubs.

Cars with previous brake, hub or wheel modifications should be inspected before ordering to confirm the front-end arrangement is suitable.

Installation and brake-system checks

Installation is recommended by an experienced professional familiar with classic hydraulic braking systems. Wheel clearance, hub alignment, caliper position, hose routing, brake-pipe condition and wheel bearing condition should all be checked during trial assembly.

Use any shims or adjustment steps specified in the fitting instructions. After installation, the system must be filled with compatible brake fluid, bled thoroughly using suitable equipment such as the Gunson Eezibleed brake bleeding kit, and tested carefully before normal road use. Castrol DOT 4 brake fluid is suitable for glycol-based systems, but can only be shipped to UK addresses. Do not mix glycol-based DOT 4 fluid with silicone brake fluid.

Brake balance after conversion

Front drum-to-disc conversions should be assessed as part of the whole braking system. Rear brake condition, master cylinder condition and hydraulic setup all affect final braking balance. A proportioning valve is not automatically required, but may be considered by an experienced installer if a modified car needs further correction.
