This Spax telescopic rear suspension kit is designed for later Austin Healey Sprite MK3–MK4 and MG Midget MK2–MK3 models. It replaces the original lever arm dampers with gas-pressurised telescopic units, offering improved control and on-car adjustability.
The system allows both bump and rebound damping to be adjusted without dismantling, making it easier to fine-tune the suspension setup for different driving conditions.
Suitable for vehicles originally equipped with rear lever arm dampers.
Not intended for vehicles already converted to telescopic systems or non-standard suspension layouts.
Installation involves removing the original rear lever arm dampers and fitting the supplied brackets and telescopic shock absorbers in their place. The kit is designed to work with the standard rear leaf spring and axle arrangement.
This is a suitable installation for an enthusiast with prior experience working on suspension systems and safe vehicle support. A good understanding of working underneath the vehicle and handling suspension components is required.
Professional installation may be required where:
After installation, damping settings should be adjusted gradually to suit driving conditions. Incorrect adjustment may affect ride quality and handling.
This kit provides a more adaptable suspension setup compared to original lever arm dampers. Adjustment can be made quickly to suit road conditions, load, or driving style, offering a practical solution for maintaining consistent rear suspension performance.
