1965 Austin Healey 3000 MK3 BJ8 Phase II
This late Austin Healey 3000 MkIII is a Phase II BJ8 model, built on the 14th April 1965 and as such features all final production refinements. Finished in Black with a Red interior, this Healey has benefitted from a dry climate all its life having been imported from Australia in 2016.
The car has been in the same ownership since 1988 having been purchased from the Healey Factory of Melbourne as a very solid restoration project to then be restored by Warwicks Autobahn. Although the car was exceptionally rust free at the time, restoration was comprehensive with the car shot blasted back to bare metal and painted in stages. The engine was fully rebuilt to original specification. All body panels on the car remain originals, not aftermarket and as such body fit is excellent. The restoration was completed in 2001 and the car has covered less than 5,000 miles since.
This Healey presents brilliantly today owing to warm climate preservation and low miles since restoration. Since restoration the car has received upgrades of a large core aluminium radiator and oil cooler suitable for the Australian heat, increased front camber, a brand new tonneau in 2019, new tyres in 2018 and regular servicing.
Sold serviced and with MOT, British Motor Heritage Certificate of Authenticity, tonneau and service history.

1966 Austin Healey 3000 MK3 Pre-Production BJ8
First registered on 13th September 1966 by David Hiam Ltd of Sutton Coldfield (but likely built much earlier) chassis H-BJ8/100 is one of the pre-production and development Phase II cars created by the Abingdon factory. This stunning provenance was excitingly identified by the British Motor Heritage Trust in 2018. Typical MkIII chassis numbers followed a sequence from H-BJ8/25315 – 43026 with Healey typically giving prototype models unique differing numbers.
The Phase II Austin Healey (chassis no 26705 onwards) debuted some major changes to the Austin Healey 3000 platform with these cars going on to be the most desirable Healey model available today. The changes included a new revamped chassis to improve ground clearance with added radius arms to improve handling. Luxuries such as locking door handles were added plus new safety features in the form of a new front and rear sidelight setup. It is these Phase II cars which now represent the most valuable and desirable mass production Healeys today.
KNX 332D’s original supplier, David Hiam, was a BMC competitions department works driver circa 1960-62 and founded ‘David Hiam Ltd’ of Minworth, Sutton Coldfield. Hiam procured many notable Healeys including the Austrian-Alpine BMC competitions department Austin Healey 3000 MKIII BJ8 ARX 91B – another early Phase II model chassis 26754. It is likely Hiam purchased the car either from Donald Healey Motor Co or the production line as he did many other special cars. Today, the car remains on its original Warwickshire registration of KNX 332D, additionally verified by its original green logbook. The car remains in its original specification and paint/ trim combinations of British Racing Green with Black interior trim.
This example has only had three owners from new. Prior to the third custodian who purchased in 2018 KNX 332D had not changed hands since 1969. The car is supplied with excellent paperwork including original log book, owners handbook, purchase documents plus fantastic service and maintenance history to verify its original mileage of 70,000 miles.
KNX 332D has been maintained by us for the last twenty years, has been treasured and as such kept very original. The car features all original body panels which in 2001-2 we undertook a light renovation of, repainting the car from bare metal, re-upholstering the original seats in upgraded leather (with chrome seat piping as per MkIII cars) and fully rebuilding the engine to standard specification but now running on unleaded fuel.
Supplied serviced with MOT, verification of authenticity, original logbook, large history file, full wet weather gear including tonneau and hood bag, original hammer, jack and more.
Asking Price: GBP £74,500
1963 Austin Healey 3000 MK3 BJ8 Phase II
Despatched on the 6th October 1964 to L.F. Dove Limited of Surrey, this original home market car is a late twin indicator Phase II featuring all major body, chassis and interior revisions Austin Healey made to the MkIII platform.
Finished in its original Black with Colorado Red duotone, Red interior trim and Black wet weather gear, the car has been subtly upgraded since its restoration including leather hide seating (vinyl seating was standard on MkIIIs), a very nice mohair hood (Everflex was factory), a louvred bonnet and a newly rebuilt (by ourselves) engine.
From the late '80s the car has resided in Germany where it was looked after and later was restored by a British car specialist and restored. Clearly the subject of meticulous attention to detail, this Healey remains in exceptionally nice condition throughout and driving exceptionally well.
In August 2020 we completed a full engine rebuild with the engine fully stripped, crack tested and chemically cleaned before being machined and built up. The rebuilt engine features an uprated camshaft plus oversized valves for a significant power and torque increase plus modernisations for future reliability including a porosity kit and upgraded oil seals. We have also fitted a new upgraded steering box, new servo and comprehensively serviced the car.
