Description Owned for 11
years, attended the MaSc Spridget 50th and Spridget 60th.
My car is well known in the club and is very reliable. (A puncture is just about all I can
recall which halted my progress once). Never raced or rallied by me but has been on
lots of club runs and exhibitions etc. It is one of the very original cars
without the late 1958 suspension mods. The car is not a £30k concourse car although
it’s very presentable. It is my fun car and retains a restored 950cc engine and
gearbox – no problems with that combination. Still has drum breaks all round. I
replaced the rear half shaft bearings with sealed ones. It has a soft top with
restored side screens, tonneau (which could do with a bit of sewing but very
usable as is) It is fitted with a 1960 windscreen (to prevent leaks when soft
top is used!) it’s economical, had a recent oil change (engine and gearbox )
serviced (by me) regularly. I have not got around to fitting the inner
trim in the footwells but I have all the red vinyl ready to do it. No carpets –
no problem when it rains! A later reliable MG Midget electronic Rev counter is
fitted, Speedo is original and seems to be calibrated well when compared with
GPS. Under dash 12v socket fitted for
that. The car has just had a new fuel tank and sender unit. There is no rust except maybe a bit of
surface rust, it’s very clean underneath. Its very lightweight having both a
good quality fibreglass bonnet and rear clip (hard to tell it’s not steel) I
have fitted 2 4-point seat belt harnesses this year. Daughter insisted so I
could take grandson as navigator! |
