New front lever arm shock absorber for Austin Healey BN1 to BJ8 models, supplied in the standard damping specification. It uses the later turret-top body design and works with the original lever arm front suspension layout.
Clearance between the shock absorber body and the lower edge of the inner wheel arch must be checked before fitting, as modification may be required on some cars.
BN1 to BJ8 models were originally fitted with flat-top front shock absorbers. Later BMC applications, including the MGB and MGC, used the turret-top body design found on this new replacement.
The two types perform the same basic lever arm damping function, but the turret-top body may not clear the lower edge of the Healey inner wheel arch without modification. A car previously fitted with turret-top shock absorbers may already have the necessary clearance.
Suitable for Austin Healey BN1, BN2, BN4, BN6, BN7, BT7 and BJ8 models fitted with the standard front lever arm suspension.
Important: Check the clearance between the turret-top body and the lower edge of the inner wheel arch before fitting. Material may need to be removed to provide sufficient clearance.
The amount required varies between cars, so measure the available clearance before removing any material. The six-cylinder example shown in the fitting instructions is a guide only; BN1 and BN2 cars may require more or less material to be removed.
Some cars may already have the necessary modification if turret-top shock absorbers have previously been fitted.

This new turret-top unit is the standard damping option for replacing a worn front shock absorber while retaining the original lever arm suspension arrangement.
To retain the original flat-top body profile, consider the reconditioned exchange flat-top front shock absorber. For firmer suspension control, a 30% uprated front shock absorber is also available.
