Uprated front lever arm shock absorber with approximately 30% firmer damping for Austin Healey BN1 to BJ8 models. Designed for owners seeking increased front-end control and reduced body movement while retaining the original lever arm suspension layout.
This version uses the later turret-top body casting developed for later BMC applications. Installation clearance around the inner wheel arch must therefore be checked before fitting.
Fits Austin Healey BN1, BN2, BN4, BN6, BN7, BT7 and BJ8 models fitted with standard front lever arm suspension.
The original Healey front dampers used a flat-top body casting. This uprated version uses the later turret-top casting style introduced on later BMC vehicles including MGB and MGC applications.
Due to the turret-top body shape, clearance between the shock absorber and the lower edge of the inner wheel arch must be checked during installation. Some vehicles may already have sufficient clearance from previous modifications or earlier turret-top installations.
Mounting hardware and suspension fasteners are not included unless otherwise stated.
Firmer damping can improve steering response and reduce suspension movement during enthusiastic driving, though ride firmness may increase compared to standard specification dampers.
Inner wheel arch clearance must be checked before installation. Minor modification to the wheel arch edge may be required depending on the car and previous suspension configuration.
Professional installation is recommended where wheel arch modification is necessary.
Uprated lever arm dampers offer increased suspension control while preserving the original Healey suspension design and appearance. They are commonly chosen for fast road driving, touring and cars fitted with modern radial tyres.
The firmer damping specification can provide more controlled body movement during cornering and braking without converting to telescopic dampers or altering suspension geometry.
