Description Austin Healey 3000 Mark III Ph1 BJ8. DFH 138B is an Austin Healey 3000 Mark III Ph1 BJ8 and a ‘matching numbers’ example with the chassis, gearbox, engine and body numbers matching those on its verified British Motor Industry Heritage Certificate. Originally built between the 30th January and 21st February 1964 at the Abingdon works, DFH 138B was despatched on 3rd March to the Donald Healey Motor Company, Warwick for personal export delivery to the USA. On returning to the UK, a complete restoration was carried out by marque specialists Cotswold Classics in the early 1990's, which included a total bodywork strip down to bare metal before being primed with multiple coats of two-pack base and three layers of clear. Other works included a conversion back to RHD, the addition of all new chrome, carpets, leather trim, stainless steel exhaust, seat belts, 72 spoke wire wheels, wiring loom, battery and hood. The original instruments were serviced. The engine was totally stripped down and completely rebuilt before being finished off with the addition of a new polished aluminium rocker cover. When driving the vehicle at present day the engine and oil pressure are strong, the gearbox and optional overdrive operate very well and the car has good handling composure. Additional work that has been completed since, includes re-chroming of the original grille, machine polishing of the aluminium and fitting of a new rear bumper. The brakes have also been upgraded. I purchased DFH 138B from Rawles Motor Sport in the Summer of 2018 and have completed less than 500 miles since. DFH 138B will be sold with a new MOT, paper documentation of restoration, MOT certificates dating back to 1993, British Motor Industry Heritage Trust certificate of authenticity along with other paperwork tracing the history of the car.
